Lactulose Solution
Lactulose is a synthetic sugar that passes through the small intestine undigested. In the colon, gut bacteria ferment it into acids that draw water into the bowel — softening stools and stimulating regular bowel movements. In liver disease, it also reduces the amount of ammonia absorbed from the gut, helping manage hepatic encephalopathy.
Constipation in adults, children, and elderly; hepatic encephalopathy (reduces gut ammonia); constipation in opioid users or those with reduced mobility; and paediatric constipation requiring a gentle, non-stimulant laxative.
Take as prescribed by your doctor or healthcare professional. Do not self-medicate.
Lactulose is the most prescribed osmotic laxative in hepatology and gastroenterology — a must-have for any GI franchise portfolio.
