Colistin Sulphate Oral Suspension IP 12.5mg per 5mL
Colistin Sulphate 12.5mg/5mL — same gut-selective gram-negative bactericidal mechanism as COLISIA DS (polypeptide outer membrane disruption, LPS displacement, osmotic lysis). Standard-strength oral colistin suspension for gut decontamination protocols requiring lower concentration dosing — appropriate for lighter paediatric patients and standard SGD protocols where the DS concentration provides unnecessarily high doses. See COLISIA DS for full mechanism detail.
Same gut decontamination indications as COLISIA DS — selective gut decontamination, pre-surgical bowel prep, NEC prophylaxis, and CRO gut decolonisation — but at the standard 12.5mg/5mL concentration appropriate for lighter patients and standard protocols. The lower concentration also provides more precise dose titration capability for the smallest neonates.
Dosage and administration should be as prescribed by a qualified doctor or medical professional. Do not self-medicate. Always follow your physician's instructions regarding dose, frequency and duration of treatment.
COLISIA provides the standard-strength colistin suspension alongside COLISIA DS, completing the oral colistin dosing range. The two concentrations together give ICU pharmacists and clinicians the flexibility to achieve precise weight-based dosing in the full spectrum of neonatal and paediatric patients, from the smallest 600g premature neonate requiring fractional doses to older children requiring SGD at higher total daily doses.
