Mechanism of Action

Telmisartan (ARB) blocks angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction and retains potassium. Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a thiazide diuretic that reduces fluid volume and blood pressure. Telmisartan's potassium-retaining effect counterbalances HCTZ's potassium-wasting tendency — making this combination metabolically safer than HCTZ alone.

Indications

Hypertension requiring combined ARB and diuretic therapy, and fluid-retaining hypertension.
